All my life i have had a running internal debate with myself. How do i maintain a healthy balance? Not food or the like, but a balance of work and play, friends and family, love interest and personal time.

I believe that i have taken each category to the extreme at one point or another, spending to much time in any one section. I like to think i have turned a corner in this regard, but some areas still dont get as much love as they should. I spend to little time with my family and not enough time with my 2 dogs.

The splits now are much better then they were, say 5 years ago. As i have grown older, ive come to appreciate the time i do spend with my family more. I cant wait until the day comes when my sister turns that same corner. The corner that when you turn it you see your family in a new light, and its no longer about spending time with them because you have to, but rather because you want to.

Finding personal time has become easier over the years as well. I have an hour commute each way to work, and generally spend at least a few hours each weekend alone at home. This coupled with spending less time with friends as all of our lives refocus, has allowed me to find a better balance.

The debate still plays on in my head, but as time goes on it becomes much easier to find a healthy balance.

I ventured into the fine world of Indian cooking today. I attempted to prepare Chicken Tikka Masala with Madras Lentils and Coconut Rice. It came out a bit salty and not quite thick enough. I put double the amount of heavy cream by accident and I think my pinch of salt was a bit too much. All in all it was quite tasty dinner, and I will try it again. One thing to note, it takes a long time to prepare.

So I picked up a DSLR yesterday. I had been thinking about getting a DSLR for quite a while and I came upon a few extra bucks. I considered new and refurbished and decided to get the most i could for my money and picked up a Refurb’d Canon Rebel EOS XSi with a Sigma OS/AF 18 - 200mm Lens. I have been taking tons of useless photos and plan to continue to do so until I master this thing.

So, Look out for lots of useless pictures for a while…

Update: Added a canon 50mm f/1.8 prime lens. Also picked up a tripod, slik pro 340dx.

Link above points to my HDR shots made with all of my new equipment.
